The Influences of Genotype and Year on Some Biologically Active Compounds in Honeysuckle Berries

Berries of three Romanian Lonicera caerulea cultivars ‘Cera’, ‘Kami’, and ‘Loni’, grown at the Research Institute for Fruit Growing, Pitesti, Romania, were analyzed between 2020 2022 in terms chemical composition. The study aimed to determine concentrations some compounds with antioxidant activity, highlight most valuable cultivar, encourage consumption honeysuckle berries, indirectly stimulate growers’ interest this little-known species Romania. Some phenolic compounds—lycopene, β-carotene, vitamin C—were quantified. As a result study, ‘Loni’ cultivar’s high total content, flavonoids, anthocyanins, C, lycopene, chlorogenic neochlorogenic acids, catechin, rutin are be noted. ‘Cera’ cultivar had highest cryptochlorogenic acid ‘Kami’ summarized carotenoid level. These characteristics indicated that cultivars’ berries could have multiple uses, from fresh consumption, as part diet focused on maintaining human health, being used raw materials para-pharmaceutical industry, obtain food supplements. novelty nutritional value its highlighted by can become crop profitability.
